Ijeawele

Dear Ijeawele
Isn't it ironic? That the journey to You was so tumultuous, but your enamoured mother named you Ijeawele... Smooth Journey.
No. It isn't irony. Far from it. It is a desperate mother's prayer that your journey be the exact opposite of hers.

Dear Ijeawele
Your smile. Oh that smile. You smile and you light up worlds. You look at the world with those discerning eyes and you smile as though you know a secret no one else does.
Dear Ijeawele
You are bold and fearless. I am amazed that you do not flinch at loud noises. You are not fazed when your mother throws you up in the air during bath time.  I imagine the amazon you will be in a few short years

Dear Ijeawele
I look forward to your firsts. Your first steps; your first days at school; your first love and your first heartbreak.  I promise to be there at every stage. I promise to laugh with you and to cry with you.  And I solemnly promise to capture every moment in selfies.

Dear Ijeawele
I imagine you will win the awards for the sciences, the arts and music. But who cares?  As long as you are happy,  I am happy.

Dear Ijeawele
You are a prayer and the answer. Your mother worries every day. She is scared the world may take that smile from you.  But she remembers...you are Awele.
